Miniature Boxers

Miniature boxers, also referred to as “Mini Boxers”, is the result of breeders combining the dog’s genes to come up with a smaller purebred version of the boxer dog. While the goal to create this is common, the results vary. Some breeders have successfully done it while others have not. Other breeders, however, simply cross the boxer with a Boston Terrier to result with what the American Canine Hybrid Club recognizes as the miniature boxer.

You can expect your mixed breed’s characteristics reflect on any of the breeds your boxer was crossed with. Keep in mind that not all designer hybrids are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. In that case either of the characteristics of either breed can potentially be found in the byproduct.

The miniature boxer, AKA mini boxer

In some occasions breeders will mix breeds that don’t even have boxer in them (such as the Rat Terrier and a Pug) and all it a mini boxer. Others call it a puggat. A cross between a Pug and a Toy Fox Terrier is often referred to as a mini boxer, but it’s also known as the Toy Poxer. There are those, however, who are seriously attempting to create a brand new purebred that contains at least half boxer. Although breeders are known to work hard to bring the miniature boxer to an actual breed and not a hybrid, none so far have successfully done so.

Don’t get fooled into purchasing a “purebred miniature boxer” because no such thing exists. If your miniature boxer resembles a Boston terrier in any way, it’s most likely a cross between Boston and a Pug/Fox. Breeders claiming that a miniature boxer is “rare” charging an outrageous price for it should be frowned upon. The chances are, it’s not even a boxer at all.
