Boxer Chewing
Boxer puppies develop a chewing habit from the day they are born. As their nutrition increases and they start developing teeth they want to try biting everything they can get their teeth on to experience the world around them. Eventually they develop a chewing habit that’s absolutely necessary for all dogs to maintain strong and healthy teeth.
So you might be asking yourself, “Why is my boxer puppy biting and chewing on my rugs, couches, sofas, carpets, clothes, belongings, remote controls, etc. even though I’ve given him a bone to chew on?”
First you have to ask yourself, are you giving him enough toys? Are you giving him proper exercise on the daily basis? Are you secretly praising his chewing behavior? There can be many reasons why your boxer puppy is chewing on your belongings. The first one that comes to mind is that your boxer doesn’t have anything else to chew on! Sure, you might have given him a bone, but he gets bored of it and needs something else to sink his teeth into.
Dogs love to chew. It’s in their nature, it strengthens their teeth, and you should never try to make them stop chewing altogether. All you have to learn to do is redirect their teeth on anything that’s not your belongings. (Such as your neighbor’s belongings… Just kidding!)
So here are some quick tips you can follow to get your boxer puppy to stop chewing on everything in your house:
- First, invest into a ton of toys and rotate them every day so he doesn’t get bored of the same toys. Also, never give him all toys at the same time.
- Provide sufficient exercise on the daily basis. A bored boxer puppy can become a very destructive boxer puppy so take your puppy out for walks, go to the park, keep him socialized.
- Praise your puppy for chewing on his toys. Give him a stern “no!” every time he tries to chew on anything that’s not his.
Your puppy should chew every single day because it’s good for his teeth and mental stimulation. In addition, your canine friend needs sufficient physical stimulation as well to get the best out of both. Learn simple yet effective ways to stop boxer puppy chewing.
