Boxer Breed
The boxer breed was initially developed in Germany. This short haired, medium sized stocky breed has a fawned or brindled smooth coat and broad short skulls. Boxer dog’s square muzzle and strong jaws can land powerful bites that are exceptionally ideal for hanging on to large sized prey. The boxer breed was a crossbred between the English Bulldog and the Bullenbeisser that is currently completely extinct. Boxer dogs are known to be the 6th most popular breed of dogs in the United States.
Boxer Breed Appearance
One of the most distinctive parts of the boxer breed is the head. The boxer breed standards say that the head must never be lighter and the body, and the boxer dog’s head is best to be proportionate to the body. What is mostly noticed about the head is the muzzle being the appropriate form and be correctly proportionate to the skull. The boxer breed will show folds from the root of the nose downward on both sides of the muzzle.
The boxer breed been originally a cropped and docked breed, a tradition that have been prohibited by animal rights groups and the general public. An adult boxer dog weights between 50 and 70 pounds and stands at about 20 to 27 inches in height. Female boxers are generally a few inches shorter and 5-10 pounds lighter.
Boxer Breed Temperament
Boxer dogs are genuinely honest and respectful, and truly, they are like a child at heart. Boxer dogs simply want to play and please their owners. The boxer breed tends to be very protective of their family (humans and dogs) and are distrustful of strangers. They love to have a good time and are very good with children. Lack of exercise can exhibit boredom activities such as chewing and digging, that’s why plenty of exercise is recommended for boxer dogs and puppies.
The boxer breed has shown extreme intelligence and are moderately simple to train. Surveys have ranked the boxer breed as the #48 most intelligent and working breed in the world, however, many professional dog trainers and experts disagree with the survey and have said to believe boxer dogs are much more intelligent.
Boxer dogs may develop issues with the same sex boxers and don’t always tolerate bigger dogs. Feeling threatened and uneasy, boxer dogs may not always be able to live with a bigger sized dog, especially the same gender dogs. Female boxers tend to have slightly worse aggression towards same sex dogs, although they’re statistically close.

Boxer dogs are prone to many health issues among some of which are cancers and heart conditions. Among some of the known health issues are hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, and epilepsy.
